Things to Know Before you Download Windows 8

Microsoft today unveiled the “release preview” version of Windows 8 which mostly indicates that the new Windows operating system is feature-complete. Windows 8 Release Preview is available as a free download and it is very likely that your existing system specs are good enough to run Windows 8.
The System Requirements for Windows 8
According to this Windows 8 FAQ, any machine equipped with 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of hard disk space and 1 GHz processor should be able to handle Windows 8. The minimum RAM requirements are 2 GB in case you would like to install the 64-bit version of Windows 8.
Should you download Windows 8 Setup or the ISO Image?
As you may have noticed on the Windows 8 download page, the installation of Windows 8 can be done in two ways.
  1. You can either take the easiest route and download the Windows 8 Setup program – that’s also the default option.
  2. Alternatively, you can download ISO Images of Windows 8.
If you are planning to install Windows 8 on your existing computer, either on a different partition (dual-boot) or just want to upgrade from an older version of Windows to Windows 8, the default Setup program is a good choice.
Please note that that your installed software programs will only be preserved if you are upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 8. If your planning to install Windows 8 on top of Windows XP or Vista, only the files will be preserved but not the various software programs that you may have on the disk.
The Windows 8 ISO image may be more handy in other situations like:
  1. Your computer has an x64 processor but is currently running the 32-bit version of Windows. If you want to install the 64-bit version of Windows 8, download the 64-bit ISO.
  2. You want to install Windows 8 on your Mac (iMac or Macbook) using Boot Camp software.
  3. You want to install Windows 8 on multiple computers. In that case, you can download the ISO once, create a bootable DVD and boot the other systems using this newly created Windows 8 disk.
  4. You plan to run Windows 8 as a Virtual Machine inside your existing copy of Windows.
  5. You are running Windows XP.
The universal product key for Windows 8 is TK8TP-9JN6P-7X7WW-RFFTV-B7QPF.
Will my software programs run inside Windows 8?
Before grabbing the ISO image of Windows 8, quickly run this setup utility and it will show a list of all software programs and hardware drivers on your system that are compatible with Windows 8. Alternatively, you can visit this page to see a list of all known software and hardware devices that are found to be working with Windows 8.
How should I go about installing Windows 8?
You can have Windows 8 on your computer in three ways – you can install Windows 8 side-by-side (also known as dual-boot), as a virtual machine (so that it runs inside your existing Windows just like any other software) or you can have Windows 8 as your primary OS (there’s no going back from here).
If you just want to try out Windows 8  but without modifying any of your existing set-up, the safest bet is to use a Virtual Machine. If you have a vacant disk partition or don’t mind creating one (it’s easy), go for the dual-boot option. Else, if you have a spare computer, you can consider upgrading to Windows 8 overwriting the previous installation of Windows.
Also note that if you are upgrading from Windows 8 Consumer Preview to the new Windows 8 Release Preview, none of your installed programs, files and account settings will be preserved though everything would be moved to the windows.old folder.

Convert any Document or Web Page to PDF

Somebody just told you that you need to have Adobe Acrobat (Writer) to create a PDF file? Guess what, you can get away from that pricey piece of software if you just need to convert some documents to PDF, without a need of fancy editing the PDF document.
Here's how. Thanks to the BullZip, who provides a Free PDF printer. With this free tool, you can simply "print out" your document or webpage to a PDF file, just about the same way as you print it out to a printer.

You can visit BullZip.com for more information about the software.
Here the direct link to BullZip downloads page: Downloads
  1. To get started, first follow the link above and download Free PDF Printer from BullZip, then install it to your computer.
  2. Once you're done, you might need to close the program (or the web browser) which you're currently viewing the document. This helps refreshing the list of available printers on your computer.
  3. Once you get back to the document you want to convert, perform the same steps are you print out the document, i.e. File > Print ...
  4. When you see the Print window pop-up, select "Bullzip PDF Printer" under "Printers", then click "OK".
  5. BullZip PDF Printer will then start to analyze your document and display a new pop-up window, where you can direct it to the location you want to save the PDF file.
  6. Follow the pop-up windows and.. Oh Yes! The PDF document is created!

History behind name of Intel , Yahoo , Microsoft , Google , Apple and Adobe

True but really interesting things.

Intel
Bob Noyce and Gordon Moore are the founders of Intel. Initially they wanted to name it as “Moore Noyce” Later they found that there was another company with that name which ran a group of hotels. Therefore, they decided to look for another name.  Then they were toying with the name ‘More Noise’. They thought, for a semiconductor company this name could be a wrong name. Then for the first year they used ‘NM Electronics’ as their company name. Finally, Intel got its name as a short form of Integreated Electorinics.

Microsoft
Bill Gates named Microsoft from two words. Microcomputer and Software. In year 1975, Bill Gates wrote a letter to his colleague Paul Allen, he wrote as Micro-Soft. But in 1976 they registered the name Microsoft as a single name.
Yahoo
The first name of Yahoo was “Jerry and David’s Guide to the World Wide Web”. In 1994 it changed its name to Yahoo. The name was taken from  a phrase from Jonathan Swift’s novel, Gulliver’s Travels. YAHOO is the short form of the phrase “Yet Another Hierarchical Officious Oracle”.  This word refers to a barbaric and uncivilized youth. The founders Jerry Yang and David Filo wanted to choose this name as they wanted themselves to be wittingly categorized thus.
Adobe
Adobe is the name of a river. One of the founders of Adobe, John Nack, lives in Los Altas in California. This river runs behind his house.
Google
Larry Page and Sergey Brin are the founders of Google. When they were studying in Stanford University, they worked on a project report to create an online Search engine. Their aim was simple. When someone searched for a keyword, the result should fetch huge number of relevant sites. In fact they wished for Googol number of results. Yes Googol represents a number which is 1 followed by 100 zeroes. Therefore they wanted to name it as googol. But when they submitted their project report for funding to an investor, the investor gave a cheque which was payable to ‘Google’  instead of Googol. So that was a spelling mistake. But Larry and Sergey decided to keep it as google and thats how the name came about.
Apple
The founder of Apple Inc, Steve Jobs used to work in an Apple Farm. When he decided to start his business, he joked with his friends that if they did not suggest a name for his company he will then name it as Apple Computers.  Obviously his friends could not come out with a name and hence Steve named it as Apple Computers.

Google says Happy Mother's Day with a heart-warming doodle

Mother's Day is celebrated around the globe to honour mothers and to celebrate the contribution of maternal figures to society. Most countries celebrate the day on the second Sunday of May, while others observe Mother's Day on different days, with 8th March and 21st March as the other popular dates.

The origins of Mother's Day as the world knows it can be traced back to the United States. In 1908 Anna Jarvis held a memorial for her mother in America. She then began a campaign to make "Mother's Day" a recognized holiday in the United States. Her attempts bore fruit in 1914, and since then the day is celebrated every year.

As of date, almost the entire world celebrates Mother's Day on the second Sunday of May. This includes Canada, Australia, most parts of Europe, India & other parts of Asia, Brazil & other parts of South America, as well as many countries in Africa.

While commercialization of Mother's Day has disappointed many, it's hardly a new phenomenon, with Jarvis herself becoming an opponent of the holiday due to the rampant commercialization as early as the 1920s.

The animated Google doodle opens with a mother figure in focus. Two kids pop into focus from behind a door and proceed to give their mother a tight hug. The characters then line up to form letters in the Google logo.
