Ex-employee reveals Facebook's dark, sexist side

Facebook developed an experimental feature called "Dark Profiles" which would give secret accounts to people who did not even sign up, a new book by a former employee of the social networking site has claimed.

Engineers wanted to create shadow pages for those who were tagged in photos by their friends in the hope they would cave-in and join the social networking website, Katherine Losse, the author of 'The Boy Kings: A Journey into the Heart of the Social Network', said.

Nobody at Facebook "even flinched" when staff raised this disturbing new twist as they were so blinded by their mission to take over the world.

The book also claimed that in 2007 Facebook technicians worked on a programme called "Judgebox", which would let users compare and rate women in echoes of founder Mark Zuckerberg's sexist "Facemash" app he developed at Harvard.

It confirms for the first time that Facebook staff have a programme called "Facebook Stalker" which lets them track who has been visiting their profiles, the Daily Mail reported. And in the early days of the social networking website, employees were given the 'master' password with no security checks at all and allowed to do as they pleased.

These claims have been made in the new book by Losse who worked for Facebook between 2005 and 2010 and worked her way up from customer relations to be the speechwriter for its founder Mark Zuckerberg.

She claimed that in Autumn 2006 everyone at the company was "so convinced that Facebook was something that everyone should have that when the product team created an experimental feature called dark profiles in 2006, nobody even flinched". People can be tagged in Facebook photos even if they do not have a profile, and the idea was to create a 'dark' version which could apparently be activated if they finally signed up.

"It reminds me now of the way members of the Mormon church convert dead people, following the logic that if they had know about Mormonism when they were alive they would have been believers," Losse wrote.

The claims come at a difficult time for Facebook, it recently sparked yet another backlash after being caught out trying to force its 900 million users to adopt its own email service. It was accused of 'hijacking' users' contact details and deleting their personal email addresses without asking them first.

Porn stars will parade at India Gate, courtesy Ekta Kapoor: KRK

We all know for a fact that Kamaal R Khan has a habit of taking a dig at almost everyone in news. And the man certainly doesn’t know how to tame his language!

As always, he took to Twitter to express his take on the kind of films Mahesh Bhatt and Ekta Kapoor have been producing off late.

He tweeted, “Ekta kapoor ji shud get honor of dirtiest lady in India who maks dirtiest hit films like Raginimms dirty picture n now #kayasupercoolhainhum(sic).”

Explaining more about what Ekta is doing to promote sex, KRK wrote, “Ekta kapoor has promised to herself ki woh sex Hindustan ke ghar ghar tak pahunchakar hi rahengi so #kayasupercoolhainhum will be super hit(sic).” And added, “If Mahesh bhatt president n Ekta kapoor is PM of india then every morning 1000 of porn stars like sunny leone will do parade at india gate(sic).”

So is KRK jealous of Ekta or Sunny Leone’s growing popularity in India?

Only KRK can answer or perhaps tweet about that.

Sohail Khan car accident case: Father Salim breaks his silence

This Khan family of Bollywood is known for being a cohesive unit and its members have always stood by each other through thick and thin. They have been subject to severe controversies in the past and are now in the news for the death of a 70 year old destitute. And the head of the parivar, Salim (father of Salman, Arbaaz and Sohail) has broken his silence on the whole event.

Apparently, Chandan Bala, the woman who was crushed to death by Sohail Khan’s car was known to the Khan family. Salim’s wife Salma would often help the homeless with money.

Salim is of the opinion that the media is blowing things out of proportion and not being just in their approach. Though the family has promised to take care of Chandra Bala’s last rights expenses, they feel they are being targeted because of their celebrity status.

Talking to a leading daily, Salim said, “It was an accident and I don`t understand why the media is raising speculation. They need to be fair and objective in their jobs. Recently, three young boys aged between 17-20, died at Juhu beach, why isn`t the media focusing on them today? Unka koi zikr nahi hai.... Why are they highlighting this story so much?”

The Khan family has maintained that Sohail was not in the car when the accident happened. His driver Dhananjay Pimple had surrendered to the Police and was released on bail eventually.

Khan also added, “It`s sad but I wonder why such accidents, where celebrities are involved, are given prominence each time? Everyone should be treated equally and you have to deal with every case according to the law. Your job as part of the media, is to report, not give opinions. I haven`t once commented on Salman`s case. I have full faith in the law and I know it will take its own course.”

I have a split personality: Veena Malik

Pakistani model-turned-actress Veena Malik, who was born as Zahida, says that she has a dual personality in real life.

"I have a split personality. Veena Malik was born when I was 10 years old. Zahida Malik`s personality is very elusive, quite. She would sit in the corner and cry all the time. She falls in love very easily. She wants to stick to one person. She has no interest in cameras and lights. She is a very simple person," Veena told reporters.

"Veena is a very different person. I have pulled Zahida out of wrong relationship. Veena is a brave person. She hardly cries. She is a very strong person. I am so thankful to my studies like psychology that helped me understand myself. I am two people at one," she added.

Veena played a double role in her debut Bollywood film ‘Daal Mein Kuch Kaala Hai’ released Friday.

Gear up for the uncensored version of Sunny Leone's ‘Jism 2’

This was certainly coming. Pooja Bhatt’s much hyped project, ‘Jism 2’ starring adult film actress Sunny Leone has not been received well by the Censor Board.
The director took to Twitter to vent out her angst against the Board’s suggestion to cut down on the sleaze quotient from the film’s promo to be aired on television.

She wrote, “First music promo for #Jism2 has been given an `A` certificate. And this was what one could call a truly watered down version(sic).”

Pooja’s tweets clearly show that she is mighty peeved with the Censor Board.

She added, “So the deal is this-You can`t buy spots on TV for a promo with an `A` certificate. Which basically means you can`t publicize your music!(sic).”

An adamant artiste that she is, Pooja refused to budge and decided not to take the Board’s remark seriously.

“So will I pare down the promo of #Jism2 to appease the censors? Or release it on the internet & push forward a more sanitized song on TV?(sic),” she wrote asking her followers but made up her mind not to pay heed to the Board.

She tweeted, “Absolutely REFUSE to pare my scheduled trailer down to pander to an over cautious Censor board. Will release promo on the internet instead(sic).”

Moreover, the lady has decided that she would release the uncensored promo on the internet.

She tweeted, "So we've decided to throw all caution to the winds & go ahead and release our first music promo on June 29'TH as scheduled over the INTERNET(sic)."

"Since we're going the internet way, you'll see an uncensored version! "People who get easily shocked should be shocked more often" Mae West(sic)," she added.

Taxi driver Shanno's date with Aamir Khan!

The Bollywood charmer who has made his way into the hearts of millions with new TV show ‘Satyamev Jayate’, Aamir Khan has proved that when the time comes he can walk the talk. The actor has literally taken up the role of a social crusader as he visited the capital recently to present his research on medical malpractices to a Parliamentary panel. True to his word, Aamir hired the same female cab driver Shanno (featured on his show highlighting the menace of women facing domestic violence) whom he promised he would meet if he comes to Delhi next time for any work.
A superstar without any airs, Aamir reportedly called for Shanno when he reached Delhi and as promised traveled with her all along his way to the Parliament and more. Perhaps the most reachable of all Bollywood star’s, Aamir Khan has even earlier made headlines for going out of his way to be around common people whom he befriends while he’s on his stride.

In April last year, the actor visited Varanasi to attend the wedding of a friend`s son. The friend was Ram Lakhan, an auto driver he met while travelling incognito in Uttar Pradesh, and who went all the way to Mumbai to personally deliver the wedding invitation to the ‘perfectionist’ of Bollywood.

Michael Jackson will never cease to exist

The king of pop music, Michael Jackson, who bid goodbye to the world three years back will keep influencing people for years to come.
MJ, as he was popularly known, had a distinctive dance style. His dancing style is a now a genre itself. Millions worldwide are a huge fan of his artistic songs and dance.

The legendary singer-dancer was a source of inspiration to many. Remembering MJ, Bollywood choreographer Terrence Lewis while talking to DNA said, “MJ has not really left us — his soul is eternal. Every time I see a child dance MJ style, with such élan, I know that he lives on.”

“My tribute to MJ will not be for just a day but will continue forever through my academy. When I watch the documentary This Is It, I feel really sad that such a brilliant concert didn’t see the light of day due to his untimely death. But MJ lives on forever in our hearts as a performer, unmatched and far ahead of his time,” he added.

Aamir Khan effect: Generic medicines to be available soon

Looks like Aamir Khan’s show ‘Satyamev Jayate’ has indeed done a world of good to India. The actor’s efforts are reaping fruits and the credit surely goes to him for bringing a sea change in the country’s outlook towards things.

Aamir recently met the Parliamentary panel headed by Rajya Sabha MP Shanta Kumar of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday to discuss core issues related to the medical fraternity, including Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in pharmaceuticals.

Though the actor refused to divulge the minutes of the meeting and its outcome, it was reported that the meet was a successful one and had the potential to bear positive results.

What followed the committee meet was an announcement by the Union Health Ministry on Friday that generic medicines will be made available at all government hospitals between October and November. Though the Ministry claimed that they did not get influenced by Aamir, their stance looked pretty much an effect of ‘Satyamev Jayate’.

Reportedly, LC Goyal, Additional Secretary, Health Ministry said that the plan would suit the pockets of the poorer section of the society and will ensure quality healthcare. Moreover, the government aims at providing free medicines to patients and will also formulate a method that will enable complete transparency in the procurement of essential drugs.

Other states will be asked to follow the model followed by Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu for holistic healthcare system.

Baby Mahi death: Salman Khan, Amitabh Bachchan slam state authorities

Bollywood actors Salman Khan and Amitabh Bachchan are mighty peeved with Haryana state administration for taking four days to rescue baby Mahi, who fell into a 70 feet-deep borewell near Manesar, Gurgaon on Wednesday night.

Salman actor wonders why are borewells not covered up. Such events have been on the rise and many children have been accidentally held captive in borewells even earlier.

Salman took to Twitter to express his angst and wrote, “So angry,y don`t these idiots cover bore well`s?Hope n pray that mahi survive`s,poor baby, had to suffer 85hrs b cs of careless grownups(sic).”

However, he saluted the army men for their efforts to rescue the child.

He wrote, "Hats off to the army jawans n personnel for doing such a self less ,gr8 n commendable job , jai jawaaaannnn(sic)."

While Amitabh Bachchan is in a state of shock. He wrote, "I hope this is incorrect .. but hearing from authorities that little Mahi has not survived .. so sad and depressing !!(sic)."

He added, "We successfully launch ICM's, but could not successfully save a little child that fell into a bore well !!!(sic)."

The 5 year old child was pulled from the borewll and rushed to the hospital on Sunday afternoon. But the baby succumbed to the trauma and passed away.

Mahi declared dead after being stuck in borewell for 85 hours

Mahi, the five-year-old girl stuck in a 70-feet borewell at Khaow village near Gurgaon for 85 hours, was declared dead today by hospital authorities. She was pulled out around 1:30pm and rushed to the ESI hospital in Manesar.

Soon after doctors in the hospital checked her, District Magistrate P C Meena confirmed that Mahi did not survive the brutal conditions inside the borewell. Doctors say prima facie it appeared that Mahi had died within a few hours of the fall. She had fallen into the borewell on June 20, just a day after her fifth birthday.

Her distraught parents blamed the administration saying the first police team came only after one and half hours after she fell in and that too with no equipment.

After several attempts to reach her had failed, a team of the Army reached the child early today morning and she was expected to be out soon after. But this turned into hours. With every passing hour, doctors on the site were worried as they said a child that age would not survive without water and food for so long. The tiny size of the borewell prevented authorities from sending food and water down to her even though they were pumping in oxygen.

Through the last four days, teams from the Army, Police, National Security Guards, Gurgaon civic authorities, Gurgaon Metro Rail and even Reliance Industries were involved in pulling her out in an operation marred with several roadblocks.

Army officials said that even though they had dug a parallel shaft, the connecting tunnel to reach her, was filled with rocks which had to manually broken as using machines would have injured her or caused a cave in.

Gurgaon Metro Rail Corporation which brought in a machine used to bore holes in the ground to erect Metro rail pillars, had to cautiously use it because of the fragility of the terrain.

Reliance Industries too sent its 'ground penetrating radar' to the spot. It was this machine that zeroed in on her exact location. They had said that even though the machine located Mahi they were unable to detect any movement. The doctors then, were hoping that she was just unconscious.

The police say the contractor who is now missing, dug the borewell illegally and left it uncovered. Open borewells are not  unusual in India.  In July 2006, five-year-old Prince fell into a borewell 60 feet below the ground in Haryana's Kurukshetra. He was lucky to survive and was rescued after a 48-hour operation. In October 2008, two- year-old Sonu fell into a 150-feet borewell . After 98 hours, he was brought out dead. Then in May 2011, 18-month-old Om Santosh Devre fell into a 70-feet borewell in an agricultural field in Nashik. The next day, the boy was brought out, dead. These just some of cases of innocent children falling into open death traps, but clearly no lessons have been learnt.

Salman Khan lauded for taking injured unit member to hospital

Salman Khan on Bike
Salman Khan, who is known for being a magnanimous personality, had rushed an injured unit member on his personal vehicle to the Lilavati Hospital on Saturday after he was injured in an accident on the sets of ‘Dabanng 2’.

The staff member was one of the three to be injured on the sets. The unforeseen event occurred while filming an action sequence at Mehboob studios.

After taking the injured person to the hospital, Salman addressed the media that had gathered and said, “Everything is fine. It is just that it took us time to reach the hospital because of a traffic jam between Mehboob Studio and Lilavati Hospital.”

Talking to a leading daily, Dinesh Chaturvedi, General Secretary of Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) said, “A car jump was being filmed when the accident happened. The car was supposed to jump and land at a distance of 50 feet. Instead it went further and landed in front of the still photographer Ajay Thakur who has been seriously injured. Two other fighters Rupesh Mantri and Sudesh Kumar were also injured.”

“We are touched by Salman`s gesture of taking the injured to hospital. Such acts do not happen in our industry. I have been told that Salman will be taking care of all medical expenses of the injured and will also pay compensation,” Chaturvedi added.

Reportedly, all the injured unit members are conscious and recuperating well.

When Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina got intimate…

Yash Raj’s latest directorial venture has acted as a catalyst in strengthening the bond between co-stars Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina Kaif, both professionally and otherwise.
The two, who will be seen romancing on screen for the first time ever, recently shot an intimate scene.

Talking to a leading daily, a source from the sets of the film said, “We shot the sequence at 19 Short Gardens, Covent Garden on Friday. It is a street bustling with activity, but they cleared the area for the shoot. Shah Rukh is very popular here and so is Katrina. They did not want the crowd to hamper the schedule.”

Apparently, the veteran filmmaker got emotional on seeing the rushes of the scene as he believed the duo looked awesome as a couple.

“Shooting the intimate sequence, Yashji got too emotional. When he saw the shot on the monitor, he got all nostalgic. As for Shah Rukh and Katrina, they looked very good together,” the source added.

Looks like Shah Rukh and Katrina are raring to set the silver screen on fire!

Millimetres away, but rescuers could take hours to reach Mahi who's stuck in borewell

It's been more than 72 hours, but five-year-old Mahi Upadhyay still remains trapped inside a 70-feet borewell she fell into on Wednesday night in Khaow village close to Gurgaon. Her rescuers say she is just millimetres away from them but this is the most difficult part and they could take hours to reach her.

There is a likelihood of her getting injured by either the machines or the mud and rocks which is why the last few millimetres requires extreme caution they say. Reliance Industries which is also helping in her rescue have brought in machines that have zeroed in on her but there has been no movement detected.

Doctors on standby are hoping that she's just fallen asleep or is unconscious.
Early this morning the operation to pull her out began again, after it had to be stopped last night due to the presence of rocks that was blocking the area where she is stuck.

Officials say the team could not use a drill as it could harm her. So since morning, they have been trying to remove these rocks manually.

More than 100 officials from the Army, Police, National Security Guards (NSG), Fire Brigade, Gurgaon civic authorities, Gurgaon Metro Rail services and Reliance Industries have been involved in trying to get her out.

The Gurgaon metro authorities have even brought in a drilling machine that is used by them to bore holes in the ground to erect pillars for the metro. This machine is being used to dig a parallel shaft that will then be used to reach Mahi through an underground tunnel.

But even the presence of this big machine has not brought any good news. The machine is being used very slowly as authorities fear that the ground could cave in if it's used without caution. The extreme heat and humid conditions are also making the operation difficult to carry out.

The police are also looking for the contractor who dug the borewell and left it uncovered, but with each hour passing, hope for Mahi is dwindling away.

Two days on, Mahi still stuck in borewell, rescue operations begin again

Mahi Upadhyay
It's been more than 48 hours but five-year-old Mahi Upadhyay still remains trapped inside a borewell she fell into. Early this morning rescue operations to pull her out began after it had to be stopped last night due to the presence of a rock that was blocking the area where she is stuck.

Officials say the team could not use a drill as it could harm her. So since morning, they are trying to remove the rock manually.

More than 100 officials, mostly from the Army, have drilled a pit parallel to the 50-feet borewell into which she fell on June 20, while playing in her village, Khaow in Manesar near Gurgaon.
Commandos are inside the tunnel to get the child out and doctors on standby to rush the girl to the nearest hospital in the process to rescue her. A team of jawans, who are part of 3 Engineers Regiment from the Delhi Cantonment, are trying to dig a link from the pit to the borewell, to reach to the exact location where the child is stuck. Oxygen is also being continuously supplied to her. But doctors are not saying anything about her condition.

Two days ago a camera was inserted into the tunnel to find out how Mahi is doing but with each hour passing, hope for Mahi is dwindling away.
