MI-vs-KKR : Mumbai regain third spot, win by 27 runs

Rohit Sharma's maiden ton powers Mumbai to a stunning 27-run win over Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Saturday.
Bowlers set up another comprehensive win for Mumbai Indians as they restricted KKR to 155/4 in 20 overs, as they wom by 27 runs to regain their third spot in the points table.

Jacques Kallis' significant innings helped KKR reach 150 plus as he added 91 runs with Yusuf Pathan to rebuild the innings after losing three wickets for 60 runs.

But KKR's' fate was sealed after Gambhir's dismissal as the Kolkata skipper was out for a nought off the first over.

Chasing 183 to win, KKR scored just 50 runs off the first six overs and had lost the top two wickets. Early wickets cut down the run-flow as Kallis and Yusuf Pathan's effort went in vain, as a target of 183 was not an easy one on an Eden wicket, as the duo tried their best to guide KKR to a win but that looked impossible as Mumbai were on a roll.

KKR also recorded the second highest total batting second on the Eden Gardens wicket while chasing 183 for win.

With this win, Mumbai regain third spot, as Royal Challengers Bangalore are placed fourth in the points table.

Mumbai Indians Innings Report: Rohit Sharma's maiden IPL ton steers Mumbai Indians to 182/1 in 20 overs against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Saturday.

Mumbai got off to a steady start, Rohit and Gibbs' heroics helped the team shed their inconsistency tag and score 116 runs in the last ten overs after scoring just 66 in the first ten overs.

Herschelle Gibbs (66*) and Rohit Sharma (109*) added 167 runs off 16.5 overs, to set another record as it marked Mumbai's second 100 plus stand in IPL 5.

Rohit Sharma's unbeaten 109, was yet another classy effort as he hit his maiden IPL ton against Kolkata Knight Riders which helped the team shed its inconsistency tag. Rohit had earlier blamed poor batting for Mumbai's inconsistent run in IPL 5 as he has proved the critics wrong today with a superb show.

His century knock included 5 sixes and 12 boundaries, while Gibbs hit two sixes and seven deliveries to the fence.

Though Kolkata started off well with Shakib Al Hasan opening the attack, as he conceded only one run off the first over and followed it up with the wicket of Sachin Tendulkar (2) in the third over as he was stumped by Bisla.

After the strategic time-out, things changed, as KKR couldn't stop the duo as they were on a roll, smashing the deliveries all over Eden Gardens, as Rajat Bhatia was one of the victims, who conceded 19 runs off the 15th over to finish with 41/0 after 4 overs as Rohit hit two fours and a six off his over.

Gibbs played a vital knock as he returned from a finger injury and scored a fifty at Eden and was also involved in a 167-run partnership for the second wicket.
with Rohit Sharma.
